Rise and shine, anglers! Get ready for an action-packed morning on the big water with Black Pearl Sport Fishing. We're talking prime time for hooking into some of Lake Michigan's most prized catches – salmon and trout. This half-day trip is perfect for families, friends, or anyone looking to experience the thrill of Great Lakes fishing without burning a whole day. Trust me, there's nothing quite like watching the sun come up over the lake while you're battling a chunky king salmon!
We'll meet bright and early at 4:00 AM – I know, I know, but trust me, it's worth it! The fish are most active at dawn, and we want to be there to meet 'em. You'll hop aboard the Black Pearl, a top-notch fishing vessel with a cozy cabin (perfect for those chilly morning starts). Captain Patrick knows these waters like the back of his hand and will get us right on the fish. We've got room for up to 6 anglers, so bring the whole crew. Don't forget your Wisconsin fishing license and Great Lakes stamp if you're over 15. Once we're out, we'll set up a spread of lines and wait for those reels to start screaming. Get ready for some serious action – when a big salmon hits, you'll know it!
On Lake Michigan, trolling is the name of the game for salmon and trout. We'll be running a mix of downriggers, dipsy divers, and planer boards to cover different depths and water columns. The captain will have all the gear rigged and ready – we're talking top-quality rods, reels, and a arsenal of lures that the fish can't resist. Spoons, flies, and cut bait are all on the menu. As we troll, keep an eye on those rod tips – when one starts bouncing, it's fish on! Don't worry if you're new to this; the crew will walk you through everything from setting the hook to netting your catch. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like the feeling of a big salmon peeling line off the reel!
"We had a great time on our charter with Captain Patrick! The Black Pearl is a very nice boat. This charter will be at the top of all of our "Great Memories" lists. I highly recommend Black Pearl Sport Fishing!" - Shaunn
"Patrick was ready to go before we got there and did an excellent job running the show by himself we all had a great time. Would definitely go again!" - Erik
"Two mornings out with Pat. Nothing but positive commentary from the whole group. Very clean boat. We will be back!" - Erika
Rainbow Trout (Steelhead): These acrobatic fighters are a favorite among Lake Michigan anglers. Steelhead can put on quite a show, often leaping clear out of the water when hooked. They average 5-10 pounds but can get much bigger. Spring and fall are prime times for rainbows, but we catch them year-round. Their silvery sides and pink stripe make for great photos, and they're delicious on the grill.
Coho Salmon: Often called "silvers," these are the speed demons of the salmon world. Coho are known for their blistering runs and tend to hit lures with reckless abandon. They usually weigh in at 3-8 pounds, making them perfect for kids or beginners to tangle with. We see good numbers of cohos from spring through fall, with peak action often in late summer. Their orange-red flesh is a favorite among seafood lovers.
Chinook Salmon: The king of the Great Lakes, no doubt. Also known as king salmon, these bruisers can top 30 pounds! Chinooks are the hardest fighting salmon in the lake, known for powerful runs and stubborn fights. Late summer and early fall is prime time as they stage for their spawning run. Hooking into a big king is an experience you won't soon forget – be ready for sore arms!
Brown Trout: Lake Michigan's browns are trophy-class fish. They're often found closer to shore and can be finicky, but when you hook one, hang on! Browns are known for their powerful runs and tend to grow big in the lake's rich waters. Spring and fall are best for targeting these golden-brown beauties. They're not as common as other species, which makes landing one even more special.
Lake Trout: The native heavyweight of the Great Lakes. Lakers are deep-water specialists, often found hugging the bottom in cooler water. They're not as flashy as their cousins, but they can grow huge – 20-pounders aren't uncommon. We target them year-round, but summer can be especially productive when they move to deeper, cooler water. Their rich, oily flesh is perfect for smoking.
Alright, folks, let's recap why this trip is a must-do for any angler visiting Lake Michigan. You're getting prime morning fishing time when the big ones are biting, top-notch equipment, and a seasoned captain who knows how to put you on fish. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time wetting a line, this trip offers the chance to battle some of the Great Lakes' most prized game fish. And let's not forget – nothing beats the taste of fresh-caught salmon or trout for dinner!
Spots fill up fast, especially during peak seasons, so don't wait to lock in your date. You might just land the catch of a lifetime. So what are you waiting for? Book your trip with Black Pearl Sport Fishing and let's make some waves!

We had a great day yesterday and the evening before. Caught our limit of Lake Trout out of St. Joseph’s and caught 8 Kings and 8 Coho out of Holland. Mark and Kyle were great and seemed like friends to us all within minutes. Highly recommend you give Mark a call.

Brown trout in Lake Michigan are wily customers, typically in the 2-10 pound range. You'll often find them hugging structure in 15-40 feet of water, especially near creek mouths or rocky points. Spring and fall are prime, but winter can be hot too. Browns are known for their hard fights and crafty nature - they're not called "the fish of a thousand casts" for nothing. Their golden-brown color and red spots make them a beauty to behold. Trolling or casting crankbaits that mimic baitfish works well. Here's a tip: when fishing shallow, try using lighter line and smaller lures. Browns can be line-shy, especially in clear water. The challenge of fooling one of these smart fish, plus their excellent eating quality, makes them a favorite target for many anglers.

Chinook, or king salmon, are the heavyweight champs of Lake Michigan. These bruisers average 15-25 pounds but can top 40. You'll find them down deep in summer, often 50-100 feet, but they move shallower in spring and fall. Kings put up a punishing fight, with powerful runs that'll test your gear. Their rich, red flesh is top-notch for the grill or smoker. Spring and late summer into fall are prime seasons. I like trolling with big spoons or plugs that mimic alewives - their favorite snack. Here's a local secret: when kings are staging near river mouths in fall, try slow-trolling J-plugs early morning. The bite can be explosive. Be ready for a battle royale when you hook into one of these lake monsters.

Coho salmon, aka silvers, are a blast to catch on Lake Michigan. They usually run 4-8 pounds but can top 20. Look for them in the top 30 feet of water, often near temperature breaks or bait schools. Spring and early summer are prime, with another good run in fall. Cohos are known for their acrobatic fights - they'll tailwalk and make blistering runs. Their orange-red flesh is prized for smoking or grilling. I've had great luck trolling with flashers and flies, but they'll hit spoons and cut bait too. Here's a tip: when you see birds working the surface, there's a good chance cohos are pushing bait up. Motor over quietly and cast small spoons or crankbaits into the frenzy. The action can be non-stop when you find a school feeding.

Lake trout are the old-timers of Lake Michigan, often living 20+ years and reaching massive sizes. The average catch is 5-15 pounds, but 30-pounders aren't unheard of. You'll find them deep - often 80-120 feet down in summer, a bit shallower in cooler months. Lakers are sluggers, not sprinters. They fight with powerful head shakes and dogged determination. Their firm, pink flesh is great smoked or in fish chowder. Spring and fall are prime seasons when they move shallower. I like jigging with big swim baits or trolling with downriggers using spoons or cut bait. Here's a local trick: in early spring, try fishing the shallows near underwater points. Big lakers sometimes cruise these areas looking for an easy meal. Landing one of these deep-water giants is always a thrill.

Rainbow trout are a feisty favorite on Lake Michigan, typically running 2-8 pounds. You'll find them in cooler waters, often near drop-offs or around structure. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but they bite year-round. Rainbows put up an acrobatic fight, leaping and running when hooked. Their pink flesh makes great eating too. Look for them 30-60 feet down in summer, shallower in cooler months. I like trolling with spoons or crankbaits that mimic local baitfish. For a real thrill, try casting flies or light lures when they're feeding near the surface. One local trick: troll slower and deeper on bright, calm days. These trout often sulk down low when it's sunny, but they'll still hit a well-presented lure.
